It can be tough to be a Christadelphian young person these days. It can be difficult to engage with the Bible or study the word of God. Our attention spans are shorter; opposing voices seem to be getting louder; it can feel like the lines between right and wrong become more blurred everyday. We battle to explicate whether modern issues are addressed in the Bible, how to find principles or lessons and then extract them, let alone trying to apply them and live Christ. Even when we have a verse to show WHAT God's way is, we can struggle to understand the WHY.
If we can understand why we behave the way we do, why God tells us to be like his son, why the Kingdom is the best thing to happen to us, why we should be a part of this community - then we can better tackle these obstacles. We will find ourselves excited to go to the scriptures and find the answers we need. This world changes constantly, but the message of God stays the same.
In 1 Corinthians 3 and Hebrews 5, the basic principles of the Bible, or the ‘WHAT’, are described as the milk of the word. Milk is essential to start a spiritual life, but something more substantial is needed to grow. To know the ‘WHY’ is to have the meat of the word, to have a true understanding and wisdom of the bible. To know the ‘WHY’ is to:
‘have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil'
Let’s grow from the WHAT to the WHY.
